To best understand the fashion trends that gave way to gyaruo and the wider culture around them, it's essential to read about the history of gyaru as a whole. All gyaruo are considered "gal", but of course, not all "gal" are gyaruo. Girls paved the way for gyaruo to exist, and inspired many of their style choices.

Some of these trends or 'substyles' may be collapsed into others, or deleted, the more information I obtain on them. Right now I'm just mapping out any notable styles I find.
