I mostly included this one for a laugh, because I predict someone will get their panties in a twist over the minuitae of 'is this a substyle or just a microtrend?' - V-pirate is an editorial look from Men's Spider magazine, I belive in volume 14/15? You could also argue that many of Hyde's looks from around that era fall under this category, given he has a thing for pirates.

Even though I put this style here as a joke, it may actually have a shred of credibility! Many visual kei bands like Dead End and bandmen like Hakuei and Hyde were inspired by the new romantics and new wave artists like Duran Duran, Culture Club and 'Japan'. Hakuei and Hyde's generation of bandmen were teenagers in the 80s and grew up listening to local artists like Dead End and the new wave artists that inspired them. Hyde cosplayed Boy George for halloween once, and Jack Sparrow - who is said to be largely inspired by Adam Ant alongside The Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards. The new romantic movement emerged from underground clubs in London and Birmingham, and was popularized by Vivienne Westwood's 1981 collection 'Pirate'.

So I guess that indicates why pirates are such a consistent motif in visual kei styling, which carried over into magazines like Men's Spider. And pirates are aesthetically just very cool.
